Bishop Matt Gunter

Matt Gunter serves as the Administrative Bishop for the Church of God in Alaska. A lifelong minister with a passion for evangelism, leadership development, and strengthening the local church, Matt brings a unique blend of pastoral, denominational, and community service to his ministry.

Raised in a pastor’s home, Matt developed a love for ministry at an early age and has faithfully followed God’s call throughout his life. His ministry experience includes serving as an evangelist, pastor, chaplain, and State Evangelism Director for the Western North Carolina Church of God. Through each of these assignments, he has remained committed to proclaiming the gospel, equipping leaders, and helping churches reach their communities with the message of Jesus Christ.

In addition to his ministerial service, Matt served for many years with the Denver Fire Department in Denver, North Carolina, where he was both a firefighter and chaplain. During his tenure, he founded the Lincoln County Fire Chaplain Program, providing spiritual care, critical incident response, and encouragement to first responders and their families. His ministry in the fire service reflected the same servant-hearted leadership that has characterized his work in the church.

Throughout his ministry, Matt has preached in churches, revivals, conferences, and camp meetings across the United States. His passion for evangelism, biblical preaching, and developing healthy churches has allowed him to minister to congregations of every size while encouraging pastors and leaders to fulfill the Great Commission.

Matt and his wife, Tracy, now reside in Anchorage, Alaska, where they have the privilege of serving the ministers and churches of the Church of God throughout the state. Together they are committed to strengthening the local church, investing in leaders, and advancing the mission of the Kingdom of God across the Last Frontier.
